The origin of the Demon King's rise to power remains a mystery to this day. However, in the human world, he is known by the name Desolate the Demon King. It was twenty years before the events of the story that he almost succeeded in casting the world into complete darkness, an event that became known as the Great Split. It was Desolate who split open the sky, and it is said that the darkness that poured out of the split was so thick that it swallowed everything that lay in its path. The Guardian Earrume and her Protector Rumil were the only ones who could stand up to the Demon King's power, and they fought with all their might to protect the world from his wrath. In the end, the Guardian and her Protector sacrificed their lives to save the world, and managed to seal Desolate away into the eternal darkness of space. It is said that Desolate still lingers in the darkness, waiting for a chance to escape and take revenge on the world that sealed him away.
